A black man is president. That idea is still shocking to many Americans. Less than a century ago, African American citizens of the United States weren’t allowed to caste their vote because the color of their skin indicated that they simply weren’t equal. Now, the vote for President-Elect Barack Obama represents that all the peoples in America truly are equals. Obama stands as a symbol of hope and the amount of positive change that he will bring as the president of these United States in the next four years should be great.
In the next four years, I will be proud of my country. President George Bush has lost all international respect for America and all of his other many, many mistakes have led me to put up a personal barrier from believing in the hope of a country, or at least this one. Now, with the election of Barack Obama, who seems to believe that Americans shouldn’t fit an agenda in order to be called true Americans, has lifted a million pounds of cynicism off of my chest. In the next four years I think that I’ll follow politics heavily (yes, not only through the funny comics about the president) because Barack Obama stands as a reason to care.
